LCD-U’S PROGRAMMES

 The fields of endeavour encompass:

·         Mitigation of HIV transmission and prevention of malaria.

·         Support to orphans and vulnerable children and Universal Primary Education (OVC  and UPE)

·         Provision of safe and clean water

·         Improvement of environmental sanitation.

·         Conservation of nature

·         Alleviation of poverty through self help initiatives

APPROACH

LCD-U focuses on sectors which have received less attention in terms of service delivery. It therefore facilitates people to improve their living conditions by supporting community-founded and led initiatives. This is done by bringing together volunteers and partner organizations from different parts of Uganda and placing them at the heart of school and community life.

Using interactive methods, the volunteers develop people’s skills which build their confidence. They also provide a wider access to information which highlights risk factors and enables them to use the local natural resources in a sustainable manner. In this way, the people they influence have a greater opportunity to make appropriate decisions about crucial issues affecting their wellbeing. This capacity building approach promotes community empowerment.

LCD-U’s programmes seek to address the needs of the poor and marginalized by reaching those who are physically and socially disadvantaged. Therefore, the primary focus of the organization’s programmes is the rural communities which lack easy and adequate access to social services.
